Migration Art
(Colored Paper Collage)
In class we studied Jacob Lawrence's artwork and read his book called The Great Migration. We were then to use pieces of scrap paper to construct our own image of migration. I decided to make baby turtles migrating from the beach to the ocean.
Visual Protest
(Mixed Media)
After viewing and discussing some examples of protest pieces, we worked individually or with 2-3 classmates to create our own visual protest piece.
Neighborhood: Geometric and Biomorphic Pattern Art
(Tempera Paint)
Using our sketches made from patterns found in our neighborhood, we created an art piece incorporating both geometric and biomorphic shapes.
Create Your Own Community
(Pen & Ink, Colored Pencils)
First we shared the map we sketched of our neighborhood. Then, working in groups, we created our own community that included both man-made and natural elements.
Fireworks
(Colored Chalk/Black Paper)
For this piece, we watched a video of a fireworks display and used colored chalk to recreate what we saw onto paper. We were to look at colors, shapes, and design and let inspiration from the video take over.
Self-Portraits
(Oil Pastel Resist)
We first learned how to draw contour, realistic, and Picasso style portraits by watching a video and following along. We then practiced with a partner and finally got to create our own self-portrait in the style of our choice.
Okeeffe Style Art
(Watercolor)
We learned four different watercolor techniques and then studied art by Georgia Okeeffe. We talked about the elements of her artwork and proceeded to find an image to recreate in her style by applying the different watercolor techniques.
Create Own Lesson: Stuffed Turtle
(3D multimedia)
For this experience, we created a 3-D character that could be incorporated into a lesson. We had to come up with a brief activity and decide on the steps to build and integrate this into a classroom.
